When his children Herbert Wilson (probably 1878) and Harriet Mary (21.03.1880) were born, James Corbin ’s residential address was “Valley Western Line” or “ Bee Valley , Blue Mountains .”

As a child Father Eric Corbin remembers his father, Percy Thomas Corbin, used to point to some sandstone cottages at Valley Heights as the position where he lived as a young boy with his father and mother, James Bentley Corbin and Margaret Mary Corbin.

By 1884 James Bentley Corbin was living at 278 Glebe Rd Glebe, where he called his home Alresford after his hometown in England .

The building with the red roof, behind the shops, is Alresford.

Their youngest child Ernest Upton (04.01.1885) was baptized at Saint James’ Forest Lodge (Glebe), when the family address was “Alresford” Glebe Point Road , Glebe.

Glebe Pt Road.  Bidura is on right.

(The number 278 is not important. The street was renumbered at least once. Margaret Mary Corbin died here – in 1899.  In 1907, however, his residence was recorded in Sands Directory as 363 Glebe Road , which probably was the same house.)

The partnership with Nicolle came to an end by 1903.  The following year it was simply J. B. Corbin, Builder.  By 1910, ill health and financial trouble, that seems to have some connection with

“the departure” of Nicolle from the partnership, forced James Bentley Corbin to retire.  He lived at Coogee around this time, but it is recalled that he still “went to the Springwood area, camping.”

He died at Bream Street , Coogee on 17 March 1918 , aged 74, and was buried in the Church of England portion of Randwick Cemetery , Malabar Road .  (Section 165B – see note below.)

Randwick Cemetery

(The cemetery is now a general cemetery and religious denominations can use any portion. Noted by Alf Corbin:  Plain rectangular headstone facing seawards, about 10 or 12 rows back from tallest fir tree and white flats (on opposite side of road from said fir)).
